I see your fuzzy little smile
Hear you breathing heavy
Excited, waking me up
I hear your little paws
Scuffle against the kitchen floor
My eyes struggling against
The morning light
Like clockwork I turn on the coffee maker
Pour out a scoop full of food for you
Your little smushed mouth
Desperately trying to eat it all at once
You slurp up water from the bowl
Before heading to the door
Scratching to be let out
Coffee in hand I open the door
You look up politely smiling
As if to say thanks I needed out
I slurp my coffee and talk to you
While you try to do your business
One dirty look later
And I shut up
At least until you’re finished
Then our daily conversations begin
You look up smiling at me
As I talk and talk
Occasionally rubbing your ears
You after all are my best friend
